Comment

December 13, 1972 was the day Zambia entered a period of one-party rule led by Kenneth Kaunda's UNIP party, this lasted until multiparty elections were held on October 31, 1991.

Due to high inflation starting in the late 1980s through the 1990s, these coins fell out of circulation by 2003.

Of the coins dated 1972, 4,000,000 were minted in 1973, 10,000 were minted in 1975, and 2,000,000 were minted in 1976.

Interesting fact

The 50 Ngwee coin from Zambia features a portrait of President Kenneth Kaunda on the obverse side, who was the country's first president and served from 1964 to 1991.
