Alexandre Jean Cuza, born on April 1ᵉʳ, 1820 in Bârlad, Moldavia, and died on May 15, 1873 in Heidelberg, was one of the major figures of the Romanian cultural renaissance, becoming an officer, statesman and ruler of the United Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia between 1859 and 1866. Interesting fact
The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Alexandru Ioan Cuza, the first prince of Moldova, who ruled from 1859 to 1866. The coin's design is based on a famous painting of Cuza by the Romanian artist Theodor Aman.
