Comment

In 1954 there was an "Essai" edition (trial) of the first three values (10, 20, 50 francs). The word "Essai" was stamped under the country name "Saarland", the front remained unchanged. The circulation was 1,100 pieces each, the coins were in sets in a plastic frame with the inscription "Monnaie de Paris" (Paris Mint).

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the Pattern 50 Franken (Trial Strike) 1954 from Saar (Germany) made of Aluminium bronze weighing 8.00 g is that it was minted during a time of great change in Germany's monetary system. In 1954, the German government introduced the Deutsche Mark as the country's new currency, replacing the Reichsmark and the Saar mark. This coin, minted in the same year, represents a transitional period in German numismatics, as it features the old Saar mark denomination but was minted with the new Deutsche Mark design. This fact makes it a unique and interesting piece of numismatic history.
