Interesting fact
The 50 Francs 1977 coin from Rwanda was the first coin to feature the country's national hero, King Kigeri IV, who ruled Rwanda from 1853 to 1895. His image was placed on the obverse side of the coin, while the reverse side featured the Rwandan coat of arms. This coin was a significant departure from previous Rwandan coins, which had featured the image of the country's colonial rulers. The introduction of King Kigeri IV on the coin was seen as a symbol of Rwanda's independence and self-determination.
