Not much is known about these early Kweichow coins. At the time, Kweichow did not have a mint, so instead, the province instead operated furnaces where sycee and ingots were refined and molded. These coins were called "silver cakes" based on their shape.

Interesting fact

The 50 Fen coin from Kweichow Province (Chinese provinces) made of Silver has an interesting fact that it was minted during the reign of Emperor Guangxu, who was the only emperor of the Qing dynasty to issue coins with his own name and title, which was a break from the traditional practice of using the name of the preceding emperor.
