Comment
This collection is the second issue of a collection of coins called "Treasures of Spanish Museums." This II Series is composed of five coins that recreate, each one of them, works by the artists El Greco, Goya, Rubens, and Antonio van Dyck, respectively.
Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes (30 March 1746 – 16 April 1828) was a Spanish romantic painter and printmaker. He is considered the most important Spanish artist of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. His paintings, drawings, and engravings reflected contemporary historical upheavals and influenced important 19th- and 20th-century painters. Goya is often referred to as the last of the Old Masters and the first of the moderns.
Interesting fact
The Francisco de Goya 50 Euro coin from Spain features an image of the famous Spanish artist himself, along with several of his most notable works, including "The Third of May 1808" and "The Disasters of War." This coin is part of a series celebrating Spanish artists and is considered a collector's item.
