Comment

Tiryns is the second largest Mycenaean acropolis, after Mycenae, in the eastern Peloponnesian region of Argolis. The hill of Tiryns was first inhabited in the Neolithic age. The settlement grew and reached its apogee in the Mycenaean Age (1600-1200 B.C.), as evidenced by the cyclopean walls, the great ramp, the megaron, the galleries (probably serving as storerooms) and tunnels (leading to underground cisterns). Listed a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with Mycenae, Tiryns fascinates the visitor and evokes the heroes of Argolic myth, as well as the modern epopee of excavations, from H. Schliemann to our day.

Interesting fact

The Archaeological Site of Tiryns coin features a unique design that showcases the ancient Greek city's rich history and culture. The obverse side of the coin depicts the iconic Lion Gate, which was the entrance to the city and is now a symbol of Mycenaean civilization. The reverse side features a representation of the ancient city's architecture, including the palace and the cyclopean walls. The coin's design is a nod to the city's rich history and cultural significance, making it a truly unique and interesting collector's item.
