Comment
Under the name 'Numismatic Jewels', in 2008 a new series of collector coins begins in which unique pieces of Spanish numismatics will be reproduced, and which will continue over the next few years. This second edition minted in 2009 is dedicated to the Centén and the Cincuentín. The set is composed of three coins, each of which reproduces a coin of a denomination that was issued in 1609 in the reign of Felipe III.During the years 1609 to 1682, reigns of Felipe III and Felipe IV, exceptional pieces of about 76mm in diameter and a weight of about 171.5gr were minted at the "Real Ingenio de Segovia", known as "Cincuentín" with a face value of 50 silver Reales. These pieces, following the Pragmatic of the New Stamp (1566), were not provided for in the current monetary legislation, the express license of the King being necessary, authorizing the amount of silver to be minted. The minting took place on the occasion of special events of a diplomatic or reserved nature.
