First version of this coin was rejected by the European Commission--27 million of the Euro cents were made but supposedly none released. There was an issue with the stars--I am unclear from reading, but thin the original version had some of the stars obscured by the hair of the ladies.
Interesting fact
The coin features a unique design that incorporates a portrait of Marie Curie, the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, along with the elements polonium and radium, which were discovered by Curie and her husband Pierre.
