Comment
The Kaiser Wilhelm II is a German transatlantic steam liner, completed in the spring of 1903 at the Stettin shipyard, then in Germany, but now in Poland. She served the Norddeutscher Lloyd company alongside her three sister-ships, and for a time held the Blue Ribbon. Her career was uneventful until the First World War. When the conflict broke out, the ship was on neutral ground in New York. She remained there until 1917, when the United States entered the war. She was then requisitioned and renamed Agammemnon.During her service as a troop transport, she collided with the Von Steuben in a convoy, which was none other than her former twin Kronprinz Wilhelm, also requisitioned. In 1919, the ship was used to repatriate American soldiers, and was then preserved for possible re-use as a transport. In 1927, she was renamed Monticello, and for a time was considered for conversion into a cruise ship. However, the idea never came to fruition, and the ship remained inactive. She was finally demolished in 1940, after 21 years of immobility. (Source : www.wikipedia.org)
