Comment

This coin was struck to commemorate The Bahamas becoming an independent state on July 10, 1973. Because of the ban on gold ownership then in effect, US citizens were not able to legally buy this coin at the time. Struck by the Franklin Mint’s British affiliate, John Pinches Ltd of London, it was sold almost entirely in England, Canada, and the Bahamas.

Interesting fact

The 1973 Bahamian $50 Independence coin is made of 24-karat gold and has a unique feature - it has a mirror-like finish, giving it a distinctive look that sets it apart from other coins.
