The 2019 Canadian Gold Incuse Maple Leaf Coin is unique for several reasons, not the least of which is the use of a double incuse strike. The sugar maple leaf on the reverse and Queen Elizabeth IIs effigy on the obverse are struck in a sunken, incuse manner into the surface of the coin rather than being engraved onto the surface and protruding upward. This further protects the design elements from any damage should the coins be removed from their packaging.
