As we focus our attention on commemorating the reign of Queen Elizabeth II (1952-2022), the Mint has not issued 2023-dated Canadian circulation coins featuring both the traditional reverse designs and an obverse featuring Queen Elizabeth II. Instead, we are offering a collector’s edition of these annual issues that have been struck in limited numbers. These are non-circulation coins, meaning they are legal tender but not intended for general circulation. The obverse also bears a special marking that includes four pearls symbolizing the four effigies that have graced Canadian coins and the double date of her reign.

For annual collectors of the 50-cent coin, a limited number of uncirculated 50-cent coins have been minted - an exclusive collector's edition not intended for circulation.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique reverse design that showcases a stylized maple leaf, which is a symbol of Canada, surrounded by a pattern of circles that represent the interconnectedness of the natural world. The design also incorporates the inscription "CANADA 2023" and the coin's denomination, "50 CENTS." This design is not only visually striking but also symbolically meaningful, making the coin a special addition to any coin collection.
