Reverse
The reverse recreates the motif of the 50-cent circulation coin designed by Canadian artist Alex Colville: a howling wolf seen from the side, sitting on its hind legs with its muzzle pointed skywards. The precise engraving captures the animal's silhouette and the texture of its fur as it utters its howl in the wilderness. The motif is enhanced by gold plating applied to the wolf and the coin's bead. Also engraved on the reverse are the face value "50 CENTS", the word "CANADA" and the commemorative dates "1967-2017".
