Set of four 1/25 oz pure gold coinsThis coin features Joanassie Nowkawalk's Owl Shaman Holding Goose sculpture, reflecting the Inuit people's mystical relationship with nature and the spirit world. Inuit shamans have the ability to transform themselves into animals, acquiring the strength and wisdom of the animal they personify. In this case, the shaman took the form of an owl and caught a goose, a powerful image that perfectly evokes this ancient and deep-rooted culture.
In 2013, the Winnipeg Art Gallery celebrates its centenary. This world-renowned museum houses the largest public collection of contemporary Inuit art, with over 11,000 works. Among them are three sculptures by Joanassie Nowkawalk, including Owl Shaman holding Goose, which he sculpted in 1962.
