The symbol of the Alzheimer Society is the forget-me-not flower. Help all those touched by Alzheimer's disease by ordering the 2007 Forget-Me-Not 50-cent sterling silver coin. For every coin sold, one dollar will be donated to the Society."Don't forget me," cried a knight as he drowned. Thus was born the name of this spring wildflower. Legend has it that a medieval knight was picking flowers for his lady along a riverbank when, under the weight of his armor, he fell into the water. Since then, all over the world, the 50 species of forget-me-not ("Forget-me-not", "Vergissmeinnicht", etc.) have been called "Ne moubliez pas", and the flower's romantic symbolism of tragedy and faithful love has survived to the present day.
These endearing flowers are truly unforgettable. They consist of five one-centimeter (0.4") petals with a delicate yellow bud. But they grow so profusely that they create a veritable floral carpet in soft shades of blue, white or pink. They prefer the rich, moist soils of riversides, and gardeners who meet such conditions are greeted every year by an explosion of spring color!
