In National Reconciliation Week 2017, the nation celebrates the 50th anniversary of the 1967 referendum and 25th anniversary of the Mabo decision - two landmark achievements for Indigenous Australians and symbolic turning points for Australia. In 1967 over 90% of Australians voted in favour of changing our Constitution, while the Mabo decision paved the way for native title. To commemorate these two important anniversaries, this moving design is presented on a silver proof coin. The Royal Australian Mint is proud to have designed this coin in collaboration with Boneta-Marie Mabo, Ms Mabo is an award-winning contemporary artist and Eddie ‘Koiki’ Mabo’s granddaughter. The Royal Australian Mint acknowledges the Ngunnawal People, traditional custodians of the land on which this coin was minted.
This coin was issued in a capsule inside a plush folding case. It also included a copy of the Copper-nickel circulating version of this coin.
