This 50 cent copper-nickel coin was struck by the Royal Mint and issued by New Zealand Post.
It is part of a series of coins issued to celebrate the making of the Lord of the Rings Movies in New Zealand.
There were three different coin sets all issued in 2003. A six, nine and eighteen coin set.

This coin was included in the full Lord of the Rings Character Set of eighteen coins.
It was also included in the Fellowship of the Ring Set of nine coins.
The actor John Rhys-Davies plays the character Gimli.

Interesting fact
