This is the final issue in the 5-coin Bush Babies series and depicts a cuddly baby koala set against a background of golden wattle waratah and flowering gums. The design includes the koala’s insect friend a cicada. The coin is housed encapsulated in a black hinged-lid presentation case accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity and protected by a colourful cardboard shipper.
The koala is one of Australia’s most beloved and iconic animal. The cuddly koala 'bear' is not a bear at all but a marsupial. Protected by law the koala lives on a diet of eucalyptus leaves. One of the few animals to actually have fingerprints similar to humans when distressed they issue a cry that has been compared to that of a human baby.
