Comment

The Royal Australian Mint issued this NCLT coin in a coincard as a tribute to the armed forces who served in the Vietnam War between 1962 to 1975. Australia joined American forces in South Vietnam following a request from the South Vietnamese government to assist with a growing communist insurgency. The AATTV would gradually swell in numbers periodically until the larger deployment of Australian forces began later in the war. The Australian war was mainly one of extensive jungle patrolling, but major actions were fought at Long Tan, Fire Support Bases at Coral and Balmoral, Binh Ba and Long Khanh.

This coin is part of the "Australians at War" 18 coin series being issued individually. Six coins were issued in 2014, Six in 2015 and the final Six in 2016.
