The Royal Australian Mint issued this Pad Printed NCLT 50 cent coin as a tribute to those who served in the Korean War of 1950 to 1953. The coin features a colour print representing medal ribbons received following the conflict. Throughout the Cold War, Australia fought a series of conflicts to contain the spread of communism in the Pacific region. In June 1950, North Korea invaded the South, capturing Seoul and advancing on Pusan. Eventually, after many lives were lost on both sides, an armistice was signed and the DMZ (De-Militarised Zone) was formed as a barrier between North and South Korea.

This coin is part of the "Australians at War" 18 coin series that were issued individually. Six coins were issued in 2014, Six in 2015 and the final Six in 2016.

All of the coins were issued in individual credit card sized coincards.
