Comment

The Royal Australian Mint issued this NCLT 50 cent coin as a tribute to those who served in Greece in WW2. In 1941, Germany had great fears of Greece becoming a British ally, which would jeopardise Germany’s access to the Romanian oilfields. Greece was subsequently invaded by Germany in order to protect its interests. Although the risks of defending Greece were apparent, British, Australian and New Zealand soldiers were sent there in March to help defend a country that would soon be vulnerable.

This coin is part of the "Australians at War" 18 coin series being issued individually. Six coins were issued in 2014, Six in 2015 and the final Six in 2016.

All of the coins were issued in individual credit card sized coincards.
