This 50 cent copper-nickel coin was struck by the Royal Mint and issued by New Zealand Post.
It is part of a series of coins issued to celebrate the making of the Lord of the Rings Movies in New Zealand.
There were three different coin sets all issued in 2003. A six, nine and eighteen coin set.

This coin was only included in the full Lord of the Rings Character Set of eighteen coins.
The actress Liv Tyler plays the character Arwen Undómiel.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, known as the "Arwen" portrait, which was designed by sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley. This portrait was used on several coins issued by the Royal Mint in 2003 to commemorate the Queen's Golden Jubilee, and it is considered a rare and collectible design.
