Comment

This circulating commemorative coin was released by the RAM on 4th July 2024.

It is celebrating 50 Years of the NAIDOC Committee. NAIDOC is an abbreviation for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920′s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.

An NCLT coloured version of the coin has also been released in a coincard by the RAM. (See link)

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it commemorates 50 years of NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee) in Australia, which is an organization that works to promote the rights and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The coin features the first portrait of King Charles III, who has been a strong supporter of Indigenous rights and reconciliation. The coin's design also includes elements that reflect the culture and traditions of Australia's Indigenous peoples.
