Comment
Lempira, the present currency of Honduras, was introduced in 1931 replacing the Peso. The Lempira is divided into 100 Centavos. The currency is named after Lempira, a chieftain of the indigenous Lenca people, who waged war against Spanish occupation of the country during 16th century. He is revered as a national hero.

Interesting fact
The 50 centavos coin from Honduras, minted between 1978 and 1990, has a unique feature - it is non-magnetic. This is because it is made of a copper-nickel alloy, which does not contain any iron, making it non-magnetic. This is different from many other coins, which often contain iron and are therefore magnetic.
