Comment

These coins were minted to the specifications of the Latin Monetary Union. In 1893 they were ordered to be withdrawn from circulation to be melted down, as the design was considered pro-Central American Republic. Because it was the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America by Europeans, it was decided to replace the design with the Columbus design.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 1892 El Salvador 50 Centavos coin is that it was minted during a time of political and economic turmoil in the country. El Salvador had recently gained independence from Spain and was struggling to establish a stable government and economy. Despite these challenges, the coin was minted with a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail, featuring an intricate design that showcases the country's rich cultural heritage.
