One of the tile of the golden High Altar by Volvinius (a german goldsmith) depicting the Investiture of Saint Ambrose. The High Altar is one of the main treasure of the Basilica and an excellent example of Carolingian Art. At both sides other two rectangular tiles in the same style of that of the altar have the dates of the anniversary. Below the value with mintmark at right.

Ambrose of Milan or Saint Ambrose (Latin: Aurelius Ambrosius), born in Augusta Treverorum in the Roman Empire (today Trier) in 339 and died on April 4, 397, was bishop of Milan from 374 to 397. A Doctor of the Church, he is one of the four Fathers of the Western Church, along with Saint Augustine, Saint Jerome of Stridon and Saint Gregory the Great.He is known as a writer and poet, a quasi-founder of Christian Latin hymnody and a reader of Cicero and the Greek Fathers, whose allegorical methods of interpretation he adopted.
