Comment

In this mule coin, the diameter of the coin field is 21 mms. The value of this coin, shown by a stylized international numeral ‘5’ below the lion capital, has a shorter gap in the bottom swing of the ‘5’. Tail of 5 is thick. The gap between the bottom of lion pedestal and Hindi word ‘Satyamev Jayte’ appears to be less. It is hypothesised that Basaveshwara Mule may have been produced by wrongly using Mahavir Obverse die.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 5 Rupees (Mahatma Basaveshwara) circulating commemorative coin made of stainless steel from India is that it features an image of Mahatma Basaveshwara, a 12th-century philosopher and statesman who played a key role in the development of the Lingayat movement, a religious and social reform movement in India. The coin was minted in 2006 to commemorate the 950th birth anniversary of Mahatma Basaveshwara.
