Russian ballet - a national school of dance with traditions based on Russian folk dances and the achievements of different ballet schools in the world. Russian ballet dancers, choreographers, and instructors made a great contribution to the establishment of the well-known ballet schools. The ballet theatre has been existing in Russia since the middle of the XVIIIth century. The Russian school of ballet has received international recognition.

The 1994 Russian Ballet 5 Roubles coin made of Palladium is interesting because it features a unique design that showcases the artistry of Russian ballet. The coin's obverse side depicts a scene from the famous ballet "Swan Lake," with a swan and a prince dancing in the foreground, while the background features a stylized image of a theater with a stage and an audience. This design was created by the Russian artist, V.A. Nikonov, and it is considered one of the most beautiful coin designs in the world.
