Date of issue: 12 AUG 2020The Kuril landing operation of 1945 was an operation of the 2nd Far Eastern Front (Army General M.A. Purkayev) and the forces of the Pacific Fleet (Admiral I.S. Yumashev), conducted on 18 August – 2 September during the Soviet-Japanese war of 1945.
Monuments have been erected in the cities of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk in memory of the Soviet soldiers who perished during the operation.
