Comment
This coin is a hybrid type with the obverse with João Prince Regent "JOANNES" and with the reverse having the type of Maria I "REGINA" instead of the João Prince Regent "PRINCEPS". Check the other 3 variants that give the origin to this coin type. Also this coin is very hard to find in good condition, making it's price in good condition very high.Interesting fact
The 5 Réis - João Prince Regent (hybrid coin) 1799 from Portugal is a unique coin because it was minted with a combination of copper and silver, which is why it's known as a "hybrid coin." This was done to address a shortage of silver coins at the time, and it's a rare example of a coin that was minted with two different metals.
