Comment

Attached certificate issued by Steven F. Hochschild (he established International Coins and Currency of Montpelier, Vermont in 1975) indicates that the coin was minted by an obscure (I could not find any references in English or Spanish Google search) Cistare Mint in Barcelona, similar to other Sudanese commemorative silver and gold issues struck by private European mints. Hochschild also established "Low mintage coin club" so he was likely specializing in such coin issues, see biography at https://nnp.wustl.edu/library/PersonDetail/991.

Interesting fact

The 5 Pounds (OAU) 1398 (1978) coin from Sudan is a rare and unique coin that features a portrait of President Jaafar Nimeiry, who served as the President of Sudan from 1969 to 1985. The coin was minted in 1978 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Nimeiry's presidency, and it is made of silver (.925) with a weight of 17.5 grams. Due to its rarity and historical significance, this coin is highly sought after by collectors and can fetch a high price at auctions.
