The standard weight of a five sovereign was 1 177/623 troy ounce (616.4 grains). The pure gold content was 565 5/623 grains (36.6119 g).This issue was a plain edge Proof only, struck in London. The odd 1 Matte Proof is thought to have been for the King himself.
Impaired and blemished proofs of the 1937 issue are common and trade at much lower values.
