The seventh design in The Queen's Beasts bullion series which began in 2016 with the Lion of England, there are a total of ten Beasts representing the statues that stood in Westminster Abbey on the Queen's Coronation in 1953. The original statues are now on display in the Canadian Museum of History at Gatineau, whilst James Woodford's sculpted replicas stand in the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew, London.This Jody Clark reverse design was struck in a variety of base and precious metal compositions and denominations.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the coin is that the Yale of Beaufort, featured on the reverse side of the coin, is a heraldic beast that has been associated with Lady Margaret Beaufort, the mother of King Henry VII, since the 14th century. It is a mythical creature with the body of a horse, the horns of a goat, and the tail of a lion, and is often depicted holding a shield with the Beaufort family arms.
