Comment

The second in a four-coin 2020 Tower of London series. The menagerie’s story started in medieval times, when monarchs enjoyed exchanging rare and exotic animals as status symbols. Inspired by a wedding gift of three lions, Henry III began his own collection of animals at the Tower.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it is a rare example of a silver piedfort, which is a coin that is struck multiple times to create a thicker and more detailed design than a standard coin. This process gives the coin a unique texture and depth that is not found in regular coins. Additionally, the coin's design features a unique interpretation of the Royal Menagerie, showcasing various animals that have been associated with the British monarchy throughout history.
