Comment

KM#101 in Krauze is not assigned to any particular coin, it's simply "Football player" and it's with date 2005 however in 2005 only 4 coins from this series known and they are already used, so KM#101 can be used for David James.

Initially, this series was intended to be 23 silver proof coins, issued in monthly intervals as subscription. Unfortunatelly, after issuing only eight coins, Royal Mint decided to stop this collection. Krauze catalogues list the full range of these coins, even most of them were never issued.

Below the photo of the commercial leaflet from Royal Mint (image from Royal Mint Museum). This leaflet confirm that originally 23 coins were planned.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique reverse design by artist David James, which depicts a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II surrounded by a wreath of laurel leaves and the inscription "ELIZABETH II • ALDERNEY • 2004". This design was specifically created for the Alderney issue of the coin and sets it apart from other coins in the series.
