The fifth design in The Queen's Beasts bullion series which began in 2016 with the Lion of England, there are a total of ten Beasts representing the statues that stood in Westminster Abbey on the Queen's Coronation in 1953. The original statues are now on display in the Canadian Museum of History at Gatineau, whilst James Woodford's sculpted replicas stand in the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew, London. This Jody Clark reverse design was struck in a variety of base and precious metal compositions and denominations.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the coin is that the Black Bull of Clarence, featured on the reverse side of the coin, is a symbol of strength and courage and has been associated with the British monarchy for centuries. It is said to have been a favorite symbol of King Edward IV, who ruled England from 1461 to 1470 and again from 1471 to 1483. The Black Bull of Clarence is also featured on the coat of arms of the British royal family.
