The second of six sets of £5 coins issued between 2014 and 2018, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the First World War. This issue with the Jody Clark 5th portrait was part of the 6-coin set released in 2015, remembering the Reality In The Grip of Conflict during The First World War and was also struck in gold proof.Issue limit: 2,500

The edge inscription is a quotation from his most renowned enemy, Manfred von Richthofen, known as the Red Baron, upon hearing of Ball’s death.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the coin is that it features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, which was designed by sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley. The reverse of the coin depicts a representation of Albert Ball, a British First World War fighter ace, in his aircraft, a Bristol F.2B biplane. The coin was issued to commemorate the centenary of Ball's birth and is a unique and collectible piece for coin enthusiasts and history buffs.
