George III came to the throne in 1760, the first Hanoverian monarch to be born in Britain and speak English as a first language. Controversially, he is often known for the mental illness that plagued his latter years and as the king who lost the American colonies.
Released as part of the 2020 annual BU and Proof sets and individually in a BU pack, the design was also struck in silver proof, silver piedfort and gold proof. The BU mintage comprised Annual Coin Set (37,117 sales), Royal Mint individual packs (6,925 sales), and in third party trade packaging (31,720 sales). The Proof mintage comprised base Proof coin sets (6,802 sales) and Premium Proof coin sets (2,474 sales).

Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique combination of two different portraits of Queen Elizabeth II, with the fifth portrait on the obverse (front) side and a portrait of King George III on the reverse (back) side.
