Comment

Despite being produced in their thousands and being available at face value from most post offices and banks, the ordinary business strike was a Royal Mint commemorative issue and not intended for general circulation.

This design was issued in the 2008 annual proof set as well as individually in Brilliant Uncirculated packs, while also being struck in silver proof, silver piedfort proof, gold proof and platinum proof.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a rare portrait of Queen Elizabeth I, who ruled England from 1558 to 1603, on the reverse side, while the obverse side features the standard portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, who has been on the throne since 1952. This unique design combination makes the coin a standout among other coins in the series.
