Comment

The first £5 crown sized coin to be issued following the denomination increase from 25 pence due to greater production costs.

Despite being produced in their millions and being available at face value from most post offices and banks, the ordinary business strike was a Royal Mint commemorative issue and not intended for general circulation.

This design was also issued in Brilliant Uncirculated individual packs and in silver proof and gold proof.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique reverse design, depicting the Queen Mother's coat of arms, which was specifically created for this coin.
