Comment
The coup of 1952 led to the end of the "Kingdom of Egypt", King Farouk was expelled from the country and the "Republic of Egypt" was established by Gamal Abdel Nasser.Hieroglyphic Inscriptions above the heads of hourses spelling "Kemet", the ancient name for Egypt.
Varieties
i) 1955
On March 16th 1955 AD, law number 150 was passed to mint commemorative coins for the first time after the 23rd of July revolution to celebrate Egypt's National Day.
Metal Composition : 87.5% Gold, 7.5% Silver & 5% Copper.
ii) 1957
Due to the high demand on the coins issued in 1955 AD, more coins were minted in the year 1975. the composition of this variety had more copper which made the coins turn reddish more than the previous variety.
Metal Composition : 87.5% Gold, 2.5% Silver & 10% Copper.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it was minted to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 23rd of July Revolution in Egypt, which led to the overthrow of King Farouk and the establishment of a republican government.
