(Menzel: BBB)Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it was minted during a time when Germany was going through a period of hyperinflation, and the value of the 5 Pfennigs coin was significantly higher than its face value. In fact, in 1923, the year this coin was minted, the inflation rate in Germany reached a staggering 200,000,000,000%! As a result, many Germans used foreign currencies, like the US dollar or the Swiss franc, for everyday transactions, and the value of the German mark (the official currency of Germany at the time) plummeted. Despite this, the 5 Pfennigs coin remained a popular denomination and was widely used in transactions.
