Comment

In 1869, Guatemala attempted to adopt the standards of the Latin Monetary Unit. To this effect, the Guatemalan Peso was fixed to 1.612 grams of .900 Gold.

Due to the "Liberal Revolution", Guatemala removed itself from the Latin Monetary Union in 1871. The real system was reintroduced and the Peso was defined as 25.4 grams of .900 silver. However, gold was still pegged to 1.612 grams of .900 gold.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 5 Pesos (Rafael Carrera) 1869 coin from Guatemala is that it was minted during a time of political turmoil in the country. The coin was issued during the presidency of Rafael Carrera, who was a conservative leader who ruled Guatemala from 1851 to 1865. Carrera's presidency was marked by political instability, and he was eventually overthrown in a coup. Despite this, the coin bearing his name has become a sought-after collector's item due to its historical significance and rarity.
