Comment
This coin is a trial strike, part of a set, with different styles, sizes and metals. Not listed on Krause. For this coin, were used the same dies of the KM# 166 , to test the use of the alloy "Japanese gold", gold 10%, silver 90%. The alloy finally was rejected.
Also note, by using the mentioned dies without modification, metal and fineness do not match the used on the coin.
Design is the same as on Souvenir Peso (1897-98) and 90th. anniversary of Souvenir Peso (1987), see links below.
The Souvenir Peso coin was minted at the US on 1897, and project had Liberty image, copied from US coins, but the minthouse refused to use it. Therefore, Leonor Molina, who was cousin of the treasurer of the revolutionary movement, and also active member, posed for the design.
Also should have 1 Peso as face value, but minthouse did not want to mint coins for a country that was on war against their friend country, Spain, so it was changed to Souvenir to avoid complications.
