The 2008 strike was released as part of the changeover from the Emblems of Britain to the Royal Shield (Issue Limit: 250) and the 2015 strike as part of the dual set to commemorate the change from the 4th portrait to the 5th. The coin was also issued in copper-nickel, silver proof and gold proof, while the 2008 was also issued in silver piedfort. In 2011, Spink changed their reference number for this coin when the composition of the base metal strike changed to Ni plated steel:

Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Platinum Proof 5 Pence coin featuring Elizabeth II's 4th portrait with the Royal Shield design is that it has a very low mintage. According to some sources, only 1,250 coins were minted in 2008, making it a highly sought-after collector's item among numismatists. Its rarity and the fact that it's made of platinum, a valuable and durable precious metal, contribute to its appeal and potential value to collectors.
