Interesting fact
The 5 Ngwee coin was introduced in 2012 as part of a new currency series that replaced the old Zambian Kwacha. The coin features the national emblem of Zambia, a lion, on one side and the denomination on the other. The use of nickel-plated steel in the coin's production was a cost-saving measure, as it is less expensive than other metals. Despite this, the coin still has a distinctive shiny appearance and is easily recognizable.
