Comment
Note that others same type patterns are countermarked by a number, probably the issue number of the patterns. On the picture illustrating this sheet, we notice 32 :On another coin (https://www.ma-shops.de/knopek/item.php?id=691), the number 021 can be seen:
The stamped numbering and the existence of certificates (https://www.ma-shops.com/beutler/item.php?id=6558) :
suggest that the patterns were for commercial purposes rather than for simple testing.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Pattern 5 Mark coin from the German Democratic Republic is that it features a unique design that was never actually used on a circulating coin. The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, a famous German writer and philosopher, while the reverse features a depiction of his home, the Weimar Cottage. The coin was minted in 1982 as a pattern coin, meaning it was produced as a trial or sample coin and was not intended for circulation. As a result, only a limited number of these coins were produced, making them relatively rare and sought after by collectors.
