Interesting fact

The 5 Mark (Anti-Apartheid) coin from the German Democratic Republic (GDR) was minted in 1978 to show solidarity with the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa. The coin features an image of a black woman and the words "Solidarität mit den Kämpfern gegen Apartheid" (Solidarity with the fighters against apartheid) on one side, and the GDR coat of arms on the other. It was not circulated and was only available for purchase as a collector's item. This coin is a unique example of how numismatics can be used to promote political messages and support social causes.
