Interesting fact
The Pattern 5 Lire coin was designed by Italian sculptor and engraver, Giuseppe Romagnoli, and features a portrait of Victor Emmanuel III, the King of Italy from 1900 to 1946. The coin was minted in 1940, during the height of World War II, and was intended to be used as a replacement for the existing 5 Lire coin. However, due to the war, the coin was never officially released into circulation and only a small number of pattern coins were produced.
